Back in Amman from Dubai

Katja and I spent last week in Dubai. I was there on business and Katja just enjoyed the city. For me it was great also as I met my colleagues from the HQ office where I worked before coming to Amman. It was just great... on one side we had very long and intense days but on the other side I did so enjoy to see all my friends and to hang out with them. Especially as I saw a very good colleague from my former office for the last time in the office as he will be retiering soon. I hope to see him back in Switzerland or maybe in his homecountry Sweden again. L.N., if you read this: All the best!! Enjoy your retirement, you really deserve it!!

The meeting was a tri regional conference and we met with colleagues from South Asia (Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore etc), North Asia (China, Japan, South Korea etc) and our region India, Middle East (my shop :-) and Africa. It was great to sit around with people from all different countries, with all different backgrounds, from all different ethnicities. This is definitely a great advantage and one of the nice things of working for a multinational. This is one of the things I like most, to meet with my colleagues from all over the world.

Before we left for Dubai Katja tried to manage to get shut the main water faucet in the basement. As usual it was very difficult and it was and actually is still not clear if we have one ;-) We just wanted to have the main faucet shut as we wanted to avoid that a pipe burst and the appartment would be foldded again, but this time without anybody being at home... a nightmare if I only think about it. The thing here is, that the insurance does not cover damages that occur by water. We'd need to claim them with the landlord, hoping that he has an insurance that covers those things... I prefer not to give it a try ;-)

We are all looking forward to this and next week :-) This week Tuesday is off as in Jordan it is election day. People vote a new parliament and therefore it is a public holiday . Next week is almost off. We work only on Sunday and the rest of the week is off as it is Eid al-Ad Ha (see previous blog to see what it is about).

I am looking forward to some days off, especially as my good friend is here :-) I am sure we will have a great time. During the day it is still in the mid twenties but it cools down at night. Nevertheless it is a very nice time as it can be cool but we always have sunny days... the crazy thing is, that we got so used to high temperatures, that we have the impression that 22°C are cold! I walk around with a sweater at our place! Crazy!!

In the meantime (after some three month ;-) we managed to get a landline... if you want to get the number, drop me an e-mail. It is cheaper to call a land line compared to a cell phone.

Take care wherever you are in this world. Big hug from Amman!
