Last blog was from Lebanon, in the meantime I traveled to Berlin and to Riyadh. You couldn't imagine a bigger cultural difference ;-) Both multi-milion cities but totally different, not even in the same universe! Here a western uropean city with everything you can imagine, there a city in the middle of the desert with temperatures you can hardly imagine and a totally different way of life. Anyway, I was on a business trip to both cities and in the meantime our sister in law arrived with her kiddies and her partner. It is really nice to have them here and we enjoy the kiddies as they bring life into our apartment! They are really easy going and the two girlies (one and three years old, they are just gorgeous!) seem to enjoy Jordan as much as their parents! I was a bit worried as back at their home it was still cool and here the summer started and the temperature shot up in one week to the 30ies. Jordan in summer is just the nicest place to be. High temperatures, low humidity and endless sun make you just feel great! I was mainly at work and traveling so Katja took care of them. They went to the Dead Sea, enjoyed a Beach Club, hung out on our roof top terrace or went shopping. Wii and TV also helped to keep them busy ;-) They will stay for another few days, then we have some day “off” and then very good friends from Switzerland will join us. We are really looking forward having them here. I must say that we were really lucky... everybody who came was great! It was always a great pleasure to have everybody here and we really enjoyed their company. It is not obvious as knowing somebody and hanging out with them and have a beer or live under the same roof. But anyway, all were so lovely and every time somebody leaves it is really hurts. It's strange but people always thing they would bother us if they stay at our place but it is the contrary! We always enjoy when somebody is with us, be it because we can show them this beautiful country or be it because we just enjoy having time to spend with good friends! Anyway, we enjoyed everybody who came and are really looking forward to all who will be our guests at “Lelli's Lodge”!
Next week we are here already one year... It is just unbelievable how fast time run. Now we have a new loop to jump through... all our permits will expire soon and we will have to re-apply to get new ones. It's not just a paper thing but we will have to go through the complete procedure again, blood test included... wish us luck ;-)
Otherwise life is quite unspectacular from my end...working, home, gym, home, office...is ike everywhere else. Except that one or the other highlight help to break the routine.
I have a cell phone with a subscription which is due also. Of course I don't exactly remember when we signed the subscription but knew that it was more or less one year ago. I asked and they told me that I was allowed to get a new phone every year. I really like the new Nokia E7. I saw it the first time in Riyadh and liked it immediately. So I ordered it. They came back to me saying:”Sorry, your subscription ends June 12...you have to wait 'till then!” I couldn't believe it!! On one hand they are totally easy and nothing is organized but on the other hand they are stricter than a German tax officer!! Anyway, I'll wait...there is no other choice ;-)
Streets in Amman have one problem...actually several but one that always hits me: I always gets something into my tires! One time it is a nail the next time it is a screw third time whatever it is...every time we have to drive to a shop that takes care of the wheel. Lucky enough the guy already knows us (recommended by “my man in the office”...) and he always helps us out whenever we have a flat tire. The good thing is that my car has a sensor that put on a light in the car dashboard long before the tire is flat as it needs a small difference in pressure and the sensor jumps. I did not expect to use that light so many times but it turned out very handy...
So that's about it for this time. Stay tuned for more news from the Middle east and don't hesitate to write back...
Take care wherever you are in this world! Big hug from Amman!
